Postgraduate and doctoral studies are forms of training of scientific and pedagogical and scientific personnel of the highest qualification. Postgraduate and doctoral studies are opened at higher educational institutions of the third or fourth levels of accreditation and postgraduate educational institutions equated to them, in scientific institutions with highly qualified scientific and pedagogical and scientific staff, modern research, experimental and material base.
The normative term of preparation of the doctor of philosophy in postgraduate study makes four years.
Postgraduate and doctoral training is carried out at the expense of:
- funds from the State Budget of Ukraine – by state order for work in the public sector of the national economy;
- funds of legal entities and individuals – on a contract basis – to work in the public and private sectors of the economy.
Postgraduate and doctoral training of foreigners and stateless persons is carried out on the basis of:
- international agreements of Ukraine;
- national programs;
- agreements concluded by higher educational institutions, scientific institutions with legal entities and individuals.

Conditions and procedure for admission to graduate school
Persons who have obtained a master’s degree (specialist) are admitted to postgraduate studies on a competitive basis. Persons who have submitted all the necessary documents for admission in accordance with the rules of admission to the University are admitted to the entrance examinations. The Admissions Committee may deny a person admission to the entrance examinations to graduate school only in connection with the failure to submit the documents specified in the Rules of Admission within the prescribed period.
Acceptance of documents for the postgraduate competition in 2022 will take place from May 16 to July 15 from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00 in the office №247 of the 1st building.
Your intention to enter graduate school must be announced on May 16, 2022 by filling out the Google form at this link.
List of documents submitted for admission to graduate school:
- application for admission to graduate school – submitted to the name of the rector of KPI. Igor Sikorsky;
- questionnaire of KPI graduate student named after Igor Sikorsky;
- a copy of the document (one of the documents) certifying the person provided by the Law of Ukraine “On the Unified State Demographic Register and documents confirming the citizenship of Ukraine, certifying the person or his special status”;
- a copy of the military registration document (conscripts have a military card or temporary certificate, and conscripts have a certificate of enlistment in conscription stations);
- a copy of the document (state standard) on the previously obtained educational degree (educational qualification level), on the basis of which the admission is made, and an appendix to it;
- four color photographs measuring 3 x 4 cm;
- a copy of the registration number of the taxpayer’s account card (if the entrant applies for a scholarship during his studies);
- excerpt from the minutes of the meeting of the Academic Council of the faculty / instituteитяг on the recommendation for admission to graduate school (if available) (the form is in the section “Documents and links”);
- list of published scientific works and inventions, certified by the head of the department to which admission is planned. In the list, select publications in professional journals and in publications that are included in the scientometric databases Scopus or Web of Science.
All copies of documents are certified by the Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of KPI. Igor Sikorsky. Copies of identity documents and military IDs are not subject to certification. Copies of documents without presentation of originals are not accepted.
In case of remote submission of documents, the entrant shall certify copies of the following documents:
- passport or identity document;
- diploma and appendix to it;
- registration number of the taxpayer’s account card;
- military registration document – for conscripts.

When submitting the application in paper form, the entrant personally presents the originals:
- a document (one of the documents) certifying the person provided by the Law of Ukraine “On the Unified State Demographic Register and documents confirming the citizenship of Ukraine, certifying the person or his special status”;
- military registration document (conscripts have a military card or temporary certificate, and conscripts have a certificate of enlistment in conscription stations);
- a document (state standard) on a previously obtained educational degree (educational qualification level), on the basis of which admission is made, and an appendix to it.
If for objective reasons there is no document on the obtained educational degree (educational qualification level), a certificate of the state enterprise “Inforesource” or an extract from the Register of educational documents EDEBO on its acquisition may be submitted, including without submitting an appendix to the document on the obtained educational degree. (education level.
If, for objective reasons, there is no appendix to the document on the obtained educational degree (educational qualification level), its average score is considered to correspond to the minimum possible value.
When admitting persons who apply for a degree (level) of education (hereinafter – the Document), the procedure for recognizing and establishing the equivalence of the Document, which is carried out in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from May 5, 2015 № 504 “Some issues of recognition of foreign educational documents in Ukraine”, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on May 27, 2015 under № 614/27059.
When the entrant fulfills the requirements for enrollment, the entrant submits to the Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies:
- the original document (state standard) on the previously obtained educational degree (educational qualification level), on the basis of which the admission is made, and the appendix to it;;
- a statement addressed to the rector of appointment of a supervisor;
- a copy of the military registration document for conscripts (except as provided by law) certified by the military mobilization department of the KPI. Igor Sikorsky.
Submission of originals of the necessary documents for enrollment may be made in addition to personal submission, by sending them by mail with a mandatory description of the attachments to the address of the Graduate School of KPI. The date of submission of documents is determined by the imprint of the stamp of departure on the postal envelope.

Entrance examinations
Persons who have submitted all the documents required for admission in accordance with the established deadlines are admitted to the entrance examinations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Entrance examinations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy are conducted in accordance with the Regulations on entrance examinations to the KPI. Igor Sikorsky. Entrants are allowed to participate in the entrance examinations in the presence of the original identity document and a pass in the form prescribed by the Admissions Committee.
Entrance examinations for postgraduate studies at the University consist of:
- entrance exam in the specialty (in the scope of the master’s degree program in the relevant specialty). Additional entrance examinations may be assigned to persons entering postgraduate studies in a field of knowledge (specialty) other than that specified in their master’s degree (specialist). Additional entrance examinations are assessed on a scale of “passed”, “not passed”. An entrant who has received “uncredited” for the entrance examinations is not allowed;
- entrance exam in a foreign language (English, German or French) in the amount corresponding to level B2 of the European Recommendations on Language Education. Applicant who has confirmed his / her knowledge of English with a valid TOEFL test certificate, or the International English Language Testing System, or a Cambridge English Language Assessment certificate (not lower than level B2 of the European Recommendations on Language Education or similar); German language – a valid TestDaF certificate (not lower than level B2 of the European Recommendations on Language Education or similar level); French language – a valid certificate of DELF or DALF test (not lower than level B2 of the European Recommendations on Language Education or similar level), is exempt from taking the entrance exam in a foreign language. When determining the results of the competition, these certificates are equated to the results of the entrance exam in a foreign language with the highest score.
The sequence of entrance exams for graduate school is as follows:
- additional entrance test (if necessary);
- Foreign Language;
- specialty.
Persons admitted to the entrance examinations for postgraduate studies by the decision of the Admissions Committee are granted leave to prepare and take exams in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.
Subject commissions are created to conduct entrance examinations on the basis of the obtained master’s degree (specialist). Entrance exams for graduate school are conducted by subject commissions.
The results of the entrance examinations for postgraduate studies are valid for admission to the University for one calendar year.
Repositioning of entrance examinations is not allowed.
Calculation of the competition score
The competitive score (KB) of the graduate student will be formed (on a 200-point scale) according to the formula:
KB = 0.5 · IC + 0.3 · IM + 0.15 · DB + 0.05 · DB, where:
IS – assessment of the entrance exam in the specialty;
IM – assessment of the entrance exam in a foreign language;
DB – additional points for educational and scientific achievements;
DB – the average score of the supplement to the diploma of higher education (on a 200-point scale).
The order of accrual of additional points for educational and scientific achievements:

When accruing additional points according to this table:
- only published works are taken into account;
- if there are co-authors of a certain work, the number of points is divided by their number;
- Educational and scientific achievements are taken into account only if their subject matter corresponds to the specialty for which the recruitment is conducted (compliance is determined by the subject commissions of faculties / institutes and / or subcommittees for the relevant specialties).
If the total number of additional points for academic and scientific achievements exceeds 200, it is set equal to 200.
